Clean up Australia Day

Many of our Victor Scouts earned these badges on Sunday March 4. The scouts picked up rubbish while completing a 12km pioneer hike along Bulimba Creek. Great multitasking Scouts!

This was followed by a sausage sizzle, drinks, and cake and lamingtons as well as Nilanjani being invested into scouts. Only Victor Scouts could fit so much in to one day – and a hot one at that!

A huge thank you to Echidna, Hawkeye, Platypus, Wirake and Sugeema for organising and helping and to Garth, Kane, Pip, Chantal, Susie, Rohith, Livi’s grandfather, Heather, Michael and all transporting parents for helping with transport, walking, cooking, photo taking and providing food and drinks. Bravo all.

Cubs ready for takeoff

IMG_3626Thanks to an invitation from the Rochedale Cub Pack, two of our cubs were able to join them for Air Activities this weekend. Air activities is a branch of Qld Scouts and gives budding pilots a chance to fly in a plane, make one and learn all about them too! For all those keen on badges not only is there a Flight Level 2 badge for your sleeve, but another for your camp blanket!

Big shout out to Rochedale leaders Jess and Kiwi for doing the heavy lifting and Chil for giving us the heads up.

Working bee – Sunday 18 March – 10am to 12pm

working-bee

Our next working bee is coming up on Sunday 18 March and we need your help to keep the den looking good! We have a few tasks that need to be done to improve the appearance, usability and safety of the den.

WHERE? Victor Scout Den

WHEN? Sunday 18 March (10am to 12pm)

WHAT TO BRING: Any tools, wheelbarrows and shovels, gardening gloves, hose & pressure cleaner, a ladder would be useful too.

ALL WELCOME! No particular expertise necessary. If you don’t have tools, just bring yourselves and your gloves!

Any time you can spare will be greatly appreciated.

Australia Day Fun and Games

Once again Victor Scouts ran games and activities at the Family Fun Day held on Australia Day by Joe Kelly MP Member for Greenslopes. It was lots of fun with marshmallow catapaults, boot tossing, mintie wrapper tearing and tug of war among other games.

Thank you to Hawkeye, Echidna, Platypus and Sugeema for running the games and organising. The scouts who helped to run the games had lots of fun while earning Community Service hours.

Thats how we roll at Victor

vicotr-scouts-trailer.JPGThanks to the support of the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation for a ‘Get Going Clubs’ grant the dream of having our own trailer for the many weekends away has finally been realised and we recently took delivery of the groups new trailer.

While its often said that a camel is horse designed by commitee, we think we got this one pretty right after checking out what other groups were using checking in with Hawkeye and Komodo (our resident trailer experts). Light enough to be towed by your average family wagon, yet with braking and tires to handle the heaviest loads and fully galvanised to with stand years of …err abuse, we hope it will bring us many years of service. Samuel  took delivery from Rhys (pictured) of the new trailer, probably in the hopes of earning another badge (good luck with that one).

Many thanks to the trailer guys (they also do camper trailers ) who understood our needs  and were able to advise us on the pros and cons of the various features on an extensive wish list. Also big thanks to  Murrays marine upholstery for the cover, spiffy pole rack up top and for organising the signage so we can  be spotted easily and next district camp.

We’d also like to that MP Joe Kelly and counsellor Krista Adams for supporting our grant application last year too and Scouts Queensland for the submission process.

XMAS at Victor(scouts), we made Santa’s nice list too

All too soon Victor Scouts wrapped up for 2017, with a XMAS BBQ, a good old barn (err shed) raising and some new doors too!

We’d like to thank the elves, Dallas from Able Doors and Building and John from Snelson Electrical for doing putting it all together.

Special thanks to Scouts Queensland for a Queensland Scout Foundation grant that helped that make it all possible and our committee for pushing all the paper round too 😉

Grey Wolves Galore

Friday night was another special awards presention evening. We welcomed the Cub Leaders to present four Grey Wolf awards to ex-cubs who are now in the Scout Section. We bravely entered the jungle to see Elena, Kate, Riley and Tom receive the awards they worked hard to achieve. Bravo to you all for achieving the highest award in Cub Scouts.

Oh What a Night

July 21 was a very special night for Victor Scouts. It’s not every day a new Scout leader is invested. It’s not every day 4 new scouts are invested. And it’s very unusual indeed to have 4 blue cords presented. So when it all happens in one night on top of the Kangaroo Point cliffs with a beautiful backdrop of Brisbane at night, it’s a very special night. What a memorable occasion – congratulations to Sugeema, Seraphina, Kate, Ben, Tiernan, Laura, Ellie, Livi and Tash.
